Consider joining the Metal Exchange family as Traffic Coordinator in our Primary Aluminum business unit, based in our St. Louis, MO headquarters. 

 

In this role, you will be responsible for negotiating with freight companies and shipping metal products to our valued customers while developing strong relationships with a variety of counterparties. The traffic coordinator has the opportunity to collaborate with team members to identify and execute creative solutions which positively impact our results.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Schedule loads with transportation vendors, including rescheduling as needed.   
  • Issue dispatch documentation to carriers.
  • Track and trace shipments and communicate information to internal stakeholders. 
  • Negotiate favorable rates and services to move shipments by truck, rail, barge or ocean in support of existing and new business opportunities.
  • Record shipment details accurately in company systems of record. 
  • Dispatch shipments to carriers according to customer requirements.  
  • Assist in resolving freight invoice discrepancies. 
  • Call and solicit new asset carriers and freight brokers to reduce costs and improve service.

 

Other Responsibilities 

  • Update Order Status spreadsheet with purchase, sale, and inventory allocations, identifying long and short positions by commodity, location and delivery month.
  • Complete daily trading system shipment settlements with an understanding of financial and physical risk management.  Contract editing as needed.   
  • Develop logistics relationships with third-party transportation, warehouse and storage providers.
  • Provide appropriate, consistent, and timely communication with internal and external customers.
  • Apply customer service skills to create and maintain strong relationships with suppliers and consumers.
  • Accurately process shipment details in our trading system.
  • Create documentation including dispatch sheets, packing lists, delivery orders, US custom related documents, pertinent for movement of international cargo.

 

Qualifications

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent supply chain, transportation and customer service experience.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook & Teams).
